Caption: Two trains in Goderich, Ontario - a rare sight that I didn't really understand at the time was quite rare. With the sifto evaporator plant in the background and lots of railway infrastructure there's plenty to look at in this photo. Mother nature was still angry and the flags flying in the wind are a testament to what the boys were up against south of town (lots of drifting!).
After plowing from Clinton to Goderich, 581 followed the plow into town and the extra will run engines first to Clinton Jct, wye the train then plow back to Stratford where the action was heavy.
What I find striking is how GEXR seems to have had a large spareboard in this era - running extras regularly including, in the same week of this photo and at the same time two plow extras, one going to/from Goderich and the other to/from London. These were golden days on the GEXR for sure. Dare I say peak GEXR.

Note the prime mover at right and a parked CEFX 6537 which I believe was returned to leassor. Not sure where the prime mover came from..
Rare catch indeed, nice! CEFX 6537 did return to it’s leassor and now wears the CEFX sky blue. I shot it in 2016 at ZTR Salford getting work done.
Very nice scene Steve. And the four-axle era was in it’s golden years as well with the SD’s coming in about two years I believe.
