I should have captioned this as follows:
“Weird Brantford, come for the trains, stay for the druggies”
this place IS weird and this sums it up.
The broom looks like a clever setup for keeping the door open.
Very colorful photo there Steve.
Interesting point, Larry. I observed a broom on the conductor’s side of 4001 down on the SOR in Garnet last week and looking back at the photos, the door is open.
It sure looks like broom handle through door handle with the bristle end of the broom to the outside of the handrail. Heh heh. Beats tying them open.
The Broom A/C is an old, old trick.
Hey Steve, no druggies in Guelph eh??
Oh yeah…. but spending time along Clarence St is not for the timid. A lot of odd looking people coming and going and walking around this area, doesn’t help there’s a methadone clininc in the plaza beside the tracks behind me.. and the people (high as a kite) to match. Downtown brantford doesn’t seem to be turning around, it’s going more towards North Hamilton direction.. and by that I mean Barton St.
Guelph’s gone the other way… with condos and the like. The bums still hang around the station, but Metrolinx and the City both have security posted down there to keep it clean And I’m only talking about our trackside areas – like Downtown (both guelph and Brantford). Other parts of town are fine, but .. just.. not here..
In fairness to Brantford folks, Guelph’s problem area is by the Guelph Junction along Victoria Rd and down towards the Eramosa river tresle and in the Radial railway trail area in the bush. Be careful walking in and around there and watch for homeless camps.
Seems to be a common problem in most cities these days.
Photos of it from before 2001? I would love to see that someday
Welcome to reality…wealth gap will only increase folks.
Also this is one of my few 400mm lens photos so far posted here.
