Caption: CPXW 5615 and 5821, two GMD SD40-2's, emerge from the west portal at SNS Magellan on the CP Cascade Sub just west of Agassiz B.C. There are two tunnels located here, side by side. One for westbound traffic, one for eastbound, and long before directional running between Kamloops and Vancouver. The local fishermen walked westward through the eastbound tunnel to get to their favorite fishing holes. I can't remember how railfans of the day managed it. I think we went up and over.
In the early 90's it was possible to pick up the daily east and westbound lineups on our scanners at around 0700 every morning. Barring any delays it worked out well and made it possible to pre-plan several good locations for the day, which were and still are, quite spread out between Chilliwack, Boston Bar - North Bend, and beyond.
Courtesy the Trackside Guide, and please correct me if I'm wrong: The 5615, built in 1972, was sold to Larry's Truck Electric in 2016. The 5821, built in 1974, was sold to Helm Financial in 2006 or 7.
I used a Pentax SP 1000 before upgrading to a Canon Eos Elan, and Kodachrome 64 or 200 for all trackside photos taken between '94 and '97.
