Caption: Things are pretty quiet in this part of the world at 0630 on a Saturday morning. So quiet in fact that I could hear the rumbling of this train for what felt like ages before it finally ended up in my viewfinder. Breaking the deathly silence of rural Niagara Region on a peaceful Saturday morning was CP 143, with CP 8893 and CEFX 1055 on point.
This is a spot that has interested me for a while. Pictured here at CN Robbins, CP 143 is about to come off the connecting track from the Hamilton Sub and enter the CN Stamford Sub. This connecting track is the old CN Cayuga Sub, which makes it all the better. The Cayuga Sub formerly ran through my hometown of Simcoe, so any way, shape, or form it holds onto life elsewhere is good in my books. I shot a 143 not too far from here (a little to the east up on Wilhelm Road) back in February, while its head end was fully on the Stamford and tail end still coming off the connecting track.

What’s the story with the track East of the Stamford connector over to Ft Erie? It looks like it was once part of the Hamilton sub but now it appears to be storage for CN well cars.
Yes, in Fort Erie I believe that is now known as Track 99, which is sometimes empty but at the moment has well cars in storage.
Where it comes east off of the area near the Stamford connecting track is the Stevensville Spur I believe (formerly Fort Erie Sub). The actual junction for the Stevensville Spur is with the Montrose, not the Hamilton Sub. I think CP has used the Stevensville Spur fairly recently to store grain hoppers for interchange with Trillium (for the old Robin Hood mill in Port Colborne).
