Caption: I'm certain this very rail train ran up the Branchlines north of here to rip them out a few decades ago. Perhaps even ran the Fergus sub to rip it out in the 80's! Here, it's back, and it's actually putting rail back on a Branchline - W968 ran to Guelph to drop rail on the Guelph N spur, who would have thought? Also, this leader CN 4138 was a regular in the CN Kitchener terminal in the 1990's and.. it's back. Two for two for CN. The last rail train that visited this area was in 2005 to add welded rail between what's now Hanlon, and Kitchener, previously it was jointed rail.

All the rail was dropped between Speedvale and the switch for the GJR, approximately 10-15 strands in total. It appears to be enough to cover the entire Guelph N spur but we’ll see what happens in the coming months.

4138 was in the film ‘The Wrong Guy’ hence the fictitious logo on the nose. In this case it’s ‘The Right Guy’.
It’s a nice change to see a rail train on a Branchline in Ontario dropping rail instead of removing it. Nice image Steve.
Yeah, no kidding. The rail cars on this train date to the early 60′s also and seem to have applied the 10 year extended life rule to them.
CN’s certainly kept things interesting up this way.
I didn’t think the age limits applied to cars that aren’t interchanged such as MOW cars?
Correct, the service life rules are for cars in interchange service. For MOW/non-interchange service cars can be much older.
Some of the remaining wedge plows in service are as much as 80-90 years old.
