Caption: There has definitely been a void as far as railway activity goes in Niagara Falls over the past decade or so. First with the loss of CP and NS through trains, then VIA Rail bailed out with the exception of the daily shared Amtrak train. Lastly CN ripped out its yard. The loss of almost all local rail served industries over the last few decades hasn’t helped either. When Metrolinx announced its plans to work toward regular GO service to Niagara Falls, it finally added some positivity to rail service for the region. Unfortunately the The lift bridge over the Welland canal has added some timetable issues but for now GO transit does operate into the city over the weekends. Here we find the noon time departure train about to head back to Toronto. A crew member watches from the head end for stragglers while I look on from an empty bench along side the classic station. The crumbling bricks tell the tell of a station that has seen a lot over its lifetime that spans over a century.
