Great Shot Jay! Awesome Scenery!
Now anyone have any idea about how many trains this trestle sees a day? I’ll very likely be up here at some point this summer to catch some action!
Thanks Graydon!
It seems sometimes that later in the week can be better for traffic through Parry Sound, especially for southbounds coming from western Canada; however I’m sure it all depends on many factors. These trains don’t cross this trestle as it’s for northbounds only. In daylight hours from early morning to late evening I’ve counted up to around 10 trains for both CN and CP going north. However, that being said some of those trains are early morning where you would have to shoot on the other side of the bridge, which doesn’t allow the best views of the harbor and water. Also, as with northern Ontario railfanning, there can be very long lulls in between trains. One plus with Parry Sound is that all CN northbounds have to contact the RTC before getting on the CP line, which gives plenty of notice and CP northbounds still get clearances before they depart MacTier. Southbounds coming down the Bala Subdivision can sneak-up fairly quietly on Parry Sound as it’s all CTC.
