This picture shows the largest-diameter non-divisible internal part of the "Excalibore" Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) riding in a special well car CN 670002. The TBM cutter, separated into 2 pieces, is on the flat car ahead.
"Excalibore" components are travelling on a dimensional train powered by SD40u CN 6002 on CN's Dundas Sub in London ON, en route to the Toronto area after completing the bore of CN's new Sarnia Tunnel under the St.Clair River.
I don't have the date of this movement, my guess is mid to late December 1994. Location is approximate.

  1. Wow this was quite the catch. Something that can happen only once!

  2. A front-end image of this train is adjacent: http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=37485
The consist of the train is provided with it.
The cutting face of the larger part of the cutter is toward the photographer’s side of the tracks. The passenger cars were sort-of olive green with yellow stripes lengthwise and black roofs. The last car had traditional round CNR leaf emblems on the side.
