With no bell or horn on the cab roof, no engine noise, riding in those things might have been pretty okay. I wonder how warm they were at -30°.
The bell is on the side behind the cab and horn is located on the roof further back. I’m sure the cab was a bit quieter with no prime mover behind but probably pretty drafty considering the units age.
