Now that the DM&E has mostly been cast off to the RCPE in the States, most of the rather sharp blue and yellow paints have been sold or retired. Not likely we will see any of them thru this area again. Not only that, in this relatively recent scene from Ayr, the silos are gone; Niagara Grain & Feed closed up a month or two after I took this image and demolition began. Out of sight behind where I am standing the Schneider's plant closed just under two years previous. Ayr is changing. It is growing despite the loss of industry. It is becoming a bedroom community for Kitchener/Waterloo.
Crossing the main drag (Northumberland) westbound is CP 8889, DM&E 6456 and BNSF 1027, a rather colourful #255 which was the reason I was there on this afternoon.
DM&E 6456, an SD40-2, stayed on its home turf as it was sold to the RCPE when the line changed hands thru South Dakota in 2014. It is now 3443 on the TP&W, no longer in that distinctive blue and yellow.
