Caption: Well, what seemed to be inevitable has finally seemed to happen. Operations along the Fonthill Spur in Thorold seem to be ceasing after almost 20 years of being the last industry on the line. Multiple sources from Trillium have indeed confirmed that Chemtrade will be ceasing rail operations with Trillium and go to truck only services. While a final date isn't set in stone, the final move will happen between April 30th and May 30th. While it just seems like a small operation, this line has historical value, as it was the route of the last ever NS&T train to run back on March 28th, 1959. Since then, CN and Trillium have operated the line. It was a subdivision, that ran all the way to Welland up until the mid 80's where it was cut to just the outskirts of Welland, and cut down just to a mile long yet again in 1994. It hosted the famed Pine St Spur, which was ceased in 1999, and ripped up last year. Here in this shot, we see leased unit GMTX 340 lift a car down the line, where it'll return with one back. Time is ticking to get your shots on this unique line. It runs Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10 and noon.
