Shiny and new CN 3862 and CN 3171 brighten up an otherwise dull day leading a westbound through Brantford. I lucked out with a brief appearance of the sun, you can see the impending gloom a few cars back in the train. With my luck it's usually the sunshine that's a few cars back!

  1. Is CN 3171 new or just repainted? Note the difference in radiator geometry between 3171 and 3862.

  2. Nice !

  3. 3862 is an ES44AC and 3171 is a ET44AC, so that might explain the difference. They’re both part of the order of 200 from GE.

  4. Now compare this shot with James Gardiner’s: http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=36817 a day later!! Both great work btw.

  5. To expand on James’ comment (thank you), CN 3862 is a Tier 3 ES44AC (Tier 4 certified), and CN 3171 is a Tier 4 ET44AC. They are indeed different. Both models are currently being built at the GE (now Wabtec) plant in Fort Worth, TX.
