A pair of clean "Big Alco" MLW M630's CP 4571 (multimark) and CP 4562 (red & stripes) lead a CP freight train round a curve in harsh-looking winter conditions on 24 January 1992. I believe the photographer was close to his home in London ON, considering the weather, and my other images by him. Adjacent frames show a grade crossing.
His camera date stamp feature imprinted the film, so date should be exact.

  1. Almost exactly 27 years after the photo date, I scanned the negative, touched up the image, wrote a caption and submitted to RPca. Southern Ontario was having a fairly easy winter into first part of January 2019, but experiencing plenty of snow and cold in the second half.

  2. After checking with maps and streetview, I am confident that this photo shows an eastbound train approached Maitland Street grade crossing in London ON. It will reach CP’s Quebec Street Yard about 0.4 miles (3 grade crossings) ahead.
