Caption: I remember this afternoon well. I was driving around Kitchener doing my regular day off errands and heard on the radio that the 2017 CP Holiday Train would be making its yearly appearance later that day in Galt. To be honest, I had forgotten all about that year’s holiday train with family commitments and the usual daily life taking priorities. That was when I finally noticed the cloudless blue sky above and ample time I had to get trackside and photograph this once a year Galt Subdivision tradition. So that’s what I did. My wife and I, along with our 1 ½ year old daughter, who luckily fell asleep for her afternoon nap, headed to Mile 54 to await the train’s arrival. At first we were the only ones there; however that quickly would change as 2246’s arrival grew closer and a small crowd would start to gather at the crossing. Normally, I had photographed this train in darkness or observed it from a distance crossing the Grand River bridge, but on this late November afternoon it was a welcome change to observe it in late day sweet light as it approached its scheduled station stop. In the end, the best part of the experience was sharing it with my family, yes my daughter had awoke before the train came, as well as catching-up with an old friend who had stopped at the same location, prior to 2246’s arrival.
