The Steel Train between Hamilton and Nanticoke had two runs in its day, once between approx 1970's and early 1990's and another run from approx 2000 to 2010. Curious, were these cars the same used in steel train service in its first incarnation? Could they have been further modified for the 2000's run? The cars were built approx 1969/70 per photos I took on this day. 599 ran in the late afternoon 6 days a week as far as I can recall, maybe it was 7 days a week. I usually ran into it on the way home/to my parents place.

  1. Check out the sexy lines of that Pontiac Lemans LS. Oh baby.

  2. I wonder if one of Arnold’s boats ended up in this scrap yard ? :)

  3. Rob did you learn to drive on one of those ?? :)

I learned on a Honda Civic Hatchback (Hondamatic), Volkswagon Jetta (94, manual) and a Dodge Reliant, good ‘ol K car. All of ‘em were junk.

  4. Host, you probably learned to shave with the remnants of one of my old cars. :o )

  5. My first car was a ’92 Ford Escort wagon. Same vintage, and just as sexy.

  6. Back to trains..;) Those GP38-2′s without the ‘safety cab’.. are they ex-GTW?

  7. But there are old cars at left… and Snake loves them.

  8. @Brad, CN 4725 was built for CN as CN 5525 in 1973.

  9. @StephenHost – this is the ‘Host Hood’..not the Snake Sanctuary….

  10. The first 60 CN GP38-2s (5500-5559)were built with “spartan” cabs. 5560 was the first GMD comfort cab, built in June 1973 and followed by 5561-5610 in late 1973 and January 1974. MLW 2501 was the first “comfort cab” unit, entering service in May 1973 (part of an order for 30 M420Ws, 2500-2529).

  11. What got painted out above the Wet Noodle?

  12. Graffiti eyes.

  13. It looks like the same double square patch job as CN GP9m 2125.
