Here is a closeup of the old Pontypool CP station, and then new 'passenger shelter' situated on the left side of the track as outlined in my previous submission showing the area and the grain elevator landmark. Strictly for the station fans, this is, and I felt fortunate that the sun happened out after a long drive just to get to this location what featured on and off snow most of the way.
The station was to be demolished (it looks rather drafty!) in the New Year but I understand just the freight part of it was torn down and some use was going to be made out of the rest of it. That part did last into at least mid summer 1977. Anyone have information on it?
The line, Havelock to Toronto, back then was served daily, I believe, but CP Buddcars; but now it is a freight only line, served by an internal CP shortline, the Kawartha Lakes Railway.

  1. I’m not sure, Arnold, that I would consider myself a “station fan”, but I have always found these images rather fascinating. The architecture, settings, history (and their ultimate demise) is a really remarkable story. Your efforts (both past and present) are appreciated!

  2. Thanks, Peter. I guess if you sit back and imagine all that transpired over the past hundred years at most of these places, looking at the pictures takes on a totally new feeling. I often wonder what “goodies” were in them :o ) Like maybe the old station clock got stuffed in the attic when it quit working !!!

  3. Good entry in Mooney’s Station Gallery.
