Seeing Jason's shot of Waterloo Town Square from 1993 prompted me to upload this photo of what the area looks like today. The same parking garage is in the back of both photos, although we weren't standing in the same spot. It's amazing how much this area has changed in the 25 years since Jason took the photo. The LRT is quite the undertaking and it'll be interesting to check out once it's up and running. I was at U of W and had heard the LRT was going to be on display on the radio while driving up so went for a walk to check it out. My only regret is not renting a motorised scooter to get me there and back. With a multi-use trail paralleling the LRT line, those scooters would make excellent chase vehicles!

  1. Cool shot Rob. It almost looks like it’s in operation with everyone on the platform. Yes, that entire area has changed dramatically over the last two decades.

  2. I guess you guys could imagine how I feel about these photos. I worked at Waterloo Square in 1969 and today I recognize nothing of it.

  3. This is a prime example of how change is a good thing. Where some spur lines get completely abandoned to nothing more than a trail, this one got completely revamped, and it’s awesome! I don’t care about all those complaints about LRT because it is a great thing. Very smart and wise to invest in rail. Really makes K-W stand out. Then again, some bias here, because I’m from this area. The only thing kind of rediculous about it all is the copious amount of level crossings identical to regular rail crossings. I know it’s the law to have these, but the LRT is essentially a bus on rails.
