Great motive power.
Cool shot Jay, I seen light power on 432/431 before but doubt I’ve ever seen the train this short. Anyone have any idea who the hoppers we’re headed to?
I also just heard word today that 432/431s replacement train under CN will run at night!! Interesting eh. Wonder what time the crew will go on duty one the operation begins under CN!
In case your wondering Steve, yes I can wait. 10 days now.
10 days is almost a lifetime to you, eh Graydon
There’s quite a few customers on the GEXR west of Kitchener plus the Goderich and Exeter subs. Start mapping ‘em Graydon and learn where they are young man, then take a guess.
Thanks for the comments guys.
Those hoppers could have been for customers either on the Goderich Subdivision or for customers between Kitchener and Kelly’s (just outside London). Yes, according to reports 432/431 will run under the cover of darkness while most of the local’s in Kitchener will still be in daylight, however 584 will now be ordered for 21:00.
Not necessarily Steve, 10 days aight bad! 10 years though, then I’ll try to think of other things to distract my eager mind until the time comes.
With the hoppers, I’ll take a guess that a few were headed to the Salt Mine
Ya I figured that the change in 584s routine in terms of obeying LRT restrictions will be effective once CN starts up. With them not being allowed to run north until 23-2400 on the LRT portion, it seems that they will still switch the yard before going up and CN just hopes that they’ll make that window for the majority of the time. Under GEXR, it wasn’t necessarily uncommon for them to have the odd night where the switch for a long time and don’t go up until after midnight. Guess it’ll be interesting to see how CN will do it!
Salt mine? Nope. No way buddy.
If you understand what Salt does to covered hoppers.. once used in Salt service always used in Salt service. Plus Salt is quite heavy so that’s why you have the shorty hoppers in use today. What you see in this photo is either grain or fertilizer.
