Caption: A panoramic view of the old Toronto core trackage and the VIA maintenance centre as it once was. Amazing numbers of rolling stock, amazing amount of track. Changes far to numerous to mention; lets just say we know where the financial district and the CN Tower are, and go from there.
CN 8519, an employee of the VIA centre, is seen moving around VIA 6761 and its train. Other unit is unidentified. Not often did I use a 28MM wide angle lens with the old Pentax K-1000, as I did here.

VIA maintenance centre? The VIA TMC is in Mimico. This shot is of the CN/VIA coach yard. The employee walking by the tracks is a CN yardman and the end of the train is right beside the “wash racks” where all equipment trains headed for Union station were washed prior to service.
When did the Mimico centre get built and operational?
Arnold, your pictures are fantastic. They always take me back to yesterday when we wore a younger mans shoes (I’m 64). Please keep them coming. I search them out! Some day I need to start scanning. Tom Weaver (alias cprtom)
@AW I am not sure the exact date. I would say it was in the very late 80′s or early 90′s. I don’t remember it being there when i became an engineer in 88.
Thanks, Tom., for your kind comments. I’m only 6 yrs older than yourself. Hardest part of looking thru and posting photos is the fact the years have gone by so fast it is scary!
Mimico VIA and GO was round 1987 when they put the then named Skydome in. I miss the freight at Mimico and looking below from CN Tower looking like model trains. Funny that the CN Tower is still named as such with out some other big conglogerate hasn’t come along to buy the name!
Btw, Anyone play the Golf course post ripping out the rails? Of course all Condo’s now.
Ah, the beautiful FPA4′s!
