Caption: The race was on!! Here I am standing just west of the Huron St crossing on an early evening in the Falls. This was one of the few places that still had open sunshine at this hour. Clear shot at the evening westbound Chessie train, which is just coming off the bridge from the US, and out of the corner of my eye I see 'Hot Rod Gertie' blowing thru the intersection in, of all things, an ugly old AMC Gremlin. I have got to grab this shot before she kills the scene. So this is the result.
The area has changed now, this is no longer a through street, and in the background, the notorious old (pale coloured) King Eddy hotel, was demolished not long after this photo was taken, and the track gone by 2002. (Note it was double track thru here too!) Second unit is 4396.

I’m willing to bet that is a Pacer, not a Gremlin.
Train CG-41 running against the current of traffic. The first 2 racks will fit through the Detroit River tunnel, the next one likely won’t pass the High Car detector at Yarmouth, and will need to go via Port Huron.
Maybe those two ladies – ahem – just came out of the Eddy…?
Awh, geez. You’re right. All those heaps looked the same to me. )
Mr. BEM’r, I don’t know how you keep track of these train numbers…………
either way great shot, that bubble car Pacer is something!
Haha this one gave me a good chuckle this morning. And always love seeing the Chessie shots Mr Mooney! It’ll be interesting to see what area looks like now!
Arnold, it’s easy. I’m a longtime fan and a former employee.
HAHA I love this shot. An AMC Pacer and Gertie at the wheel!
