Awesome to see trains added to the schedule compared to losing them. Lets hope it all works out
Very nice! Nice to see some old GP40s once again around here.
Awesome! Seems the hagersville sub has now become a time capsule of sorts. Just a shame it’s still a night run, was really hoping for it to be daylight.
Great example of the higher and lighter frames (on the 9543 & 9473) and lower standard frame on the 9675. This is great.
I just caught a triple of GP40′s today myself, the 9601, 9542 & 9427. Plus a pair of SD40′s (5277 & 5264) heading out on 515.
Excellent shot Joe.
Great work Joe. Aaron 581 may be a night run but unlike the SOR, 581 doesn’t service customers – it’s simply a transfer. This means 580 does the work in daylight, and that’s 5 days a week. So plenty of daylight to be had of this power set especially if you go now, before something swaps out for a gp9
580 headed to Hagersville early this afternoon. The crew sure has a lot to do during the day now. I caught them returning from Masseys after 72 departed. They brought back about 11 cars from Normerica and 7 cars from Mabe. Two railfans I talked to said they weren’t a fan of the GP40-2L(W)s but considering they were “regulars” when I was younger I’m happy to see them back around here.
They were “regulars” as road power back then, but not as switcher power.
The issues with the GP40′s is that they take a long time to load as compared with the GP38 or GP9′s.
That’s right Phil. And as railfans they were speaking about appearance versus functionality.
The crew of 580 can’t be too happy.. their job just became much more work.. time to bid on another job???
Who picked up Princeton after these changes?
Based on scanner convo I heard earlier between 580 and another train, sounds like 582 will do Princeton now. 582 already has to run to Paris West on occasion, so it would make sense to be a stop on the way.
Stephen, are you saying that 580 is now responsible for servicing the other industries on the Hagersville sub? Do they go over the grand river in Caledonia during the day or do they not go that far? Also will 581 run on weekends as well? I wonder if we’ll see any six axle power on this line eventually like 40-2′s or SD75I’s. Or other four axle power like GP9RMs
Aaron, 580 will do all industries from Brantford to Hagersville. This operates in the day, I shot them this afternoon returning from Hagersville after shooting CGC. How often does this happen? We don’t know what their schedule will be like. Hit and miss for sure.
As for frequency of 581, we don’t know that either. They’re just entering the Hagersville Sub now as I type though.
Hopefully there are weekend extras. I’m told Hagersville should be m-w-f and Caledonia (not over bridge) tue-thur for Nicholson & Cates. Extras and schedule variations nonwithstanding. Since the Conductor determines when to go do the work it’ll be you locals that watch out the timing of things.. morning or afternoon etc.
582 now does Princeton ??
Are all those cement loads still in Brantford Yd ??
My bad guys, should say 585. There shouldn’t be any cement left in Brantford
Will they do anything at the Caledonia station during the day?
Well they may pull up by it for headroom to switch Nicholson and Cates. But they won’t be that close to it,no.
So I understand 580′s transfer run is to Garnet to interchange with SOR and SOR services Esso and Nanticoke correct? Looking for affordable housing…so this could be a motivator for an area to move to.
and sorry..@ngineered4u, excuse my ignorance, always willing to learn, but what does “GP40′s…take a long time to load” mean? cheers.
@Brad. 581, not 580, does the run to Garnet to interchange with SOR. SOR will continue the work south of Garnet at the refinery, Stelco, and ESM.
With respect to 580′s work in Haldimand, as Steve said “I’m told Hagersville should be m-w-f and Caledonia (not over bridge) tue-thur for Nicholson & Cates.”
