Caption: We don’t normally associate double-stack container trains with Hamilton and the Niagara Peninsula; however, from February 1989 until double stack clearance projects were completed through Western Canada in the early 1990s, CN operated double-stack service between Toronto and Vancouver via Buffalo. Initially 12 “5-pack” car sets were leased from TTX. Later in the year (July 1989), Maersk introduced service between Tacoma, Washington and Toronto/Montreal, also via CN in the Niagara Peninsula and NS west of Buffalo. Two units typically handled this train--today, a pair of GP40-2Ws (9633 and 9659).
