VITX 2010 sports Flexicoil-B trucks, unlike its similar sibling VITX 2020 which rides on AAR Type A. Both locomotives are NRE 1GS7B genset units of 700 HP. Note the "T3 Power" Decals framed by the handrail. Viterra is a major grain elevator operator at the Port of Vancouver. Their locomotives are used to move cuts of grain cars as required, including spotting them over unloading chutes.

  1. Origin of this unit?

  2. Viterra acquired it new from NRE, web sources indicate it was manufactured October 1978 delivered November. An EMD SW unit is the usual “core” that these are built on, but looks like almost everything above the frame is new. The Flexicoil B trucks suggest possible SW1200RS origin, but unknown.

  3. Ooops, correct manufacture year is 2008 !!! Also note the absence of MU sockets, this is a basic switcher.

  4. It’s probably this thing wearing a new coat of paint, http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=26647

  5. There’s something of an unrefined ‘Herman Munster’ quality about this one!

  6. Thanks for the link to image 26647, a sibling of VITX 2010. Since NREX 700 rides on AAR type A trucks, not Flexicoil B, I expect it’s a different loco. However NREX 700 is a better match for VITX 2020, so those 2 might be one and the same. VITX 2020 image with rooftop A/C, http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=34038

  7. A railpictures.ca search for NREX 700 found it working at a North Vancouver elevator in October 2016 with a new paint job and single rooftop A/C. Might have become VTIX 2020 but not VTIX 2010. http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=28078
