Caption: FP7A CP 4066 in the narrow-stripes CP Rail paint scheme hauls the Sudbury-Toronto section of "The Canadian" south of Major Mackenzie Drive during summer in the mid 1970's. A single 4000 series FP7A was the most typical power for this train at the time.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about CP 4066 is its ultimate fate. Passed on to VIA, repainted and renumbered to VIA 6566, it was the lead unit of the combined Super Continental + Skeena eastbound out of Jasper on February 8, 1986. Through no fault of its passenger train crew, it was among the equipment destroyed in a terrible head-on collision with a CN freight train near Hinton Alberta. There were 23 fatalities, including the head-end crews of both trains.
