The K+N Spur on the right hadn’t been in use for years, probably last seeing use in the late 90′s or early 2000′s. CN did use it in more recent years to park MofW equipment on however, but only up to the entry gate.
I always wondered how long it was since the K+N Spur last saw regular use, thanks for the info! Yes I remember seeing the maintenance machines stored on there some time ago when the Halton went under triple tracking construction and realignment of tracks at Bramalea where tracks 1&2 became mostly freight and 3 saw most of the GO/VIAs. Since 2009 I think track #4 rarely saw use and in the last couple years it was disused due to the construction on the platform. Well with all the work that has been done on her it looks like she’ll be seeing regular use again soon.
I had a quick question in mind though with regards to the K+N Spur, Dan I’m sure your aware that there is another spur on track #4 that branches off east of Bramalea just at the end of the platform. Any idea who it served or the purpose for it? It appears that the spur was trimmed down to the switch long ago but it looks like she can hold some maintenance too if needed.
If Metrolinx gets what they want the Halton Sub will be shifted west to follow the 407. Metrolinx wants the tracks from Silver to Halwest for their expansion plans and 12,000ft trains just don’t fit that wellwith GO trains. I have seen the plans for this new trackage. Ambitious to say the least
That spur at the east end once curved south to serve the south building of K+N and another customer south of them. The current track 4 was actually originally a service track, and at the east end didn’t connect with the mainline and just curved down. The switch was put in making it a spur when GO turned that service track into the Bramalea pocket track for Platform 3 around 2004 and connected it to the Weston Sub service track that ended just east of Bramalea Rd. (that served a now-gone lumber dealer south of the tracks). The curving siding was later removed up to the switch sometime between Spring and Fall 2004, as far as I can tell.
Fun fact: the Canadian Tire distribution centre on the east side of Bramalea also once had a rail spur into their building, still present in the 90′s but removed by 2000.
