Caption: Being in the right place at the right time allowed me to capture this rolling meet between competitors. It was a pretty intense few minutes beforehand as I could hear both trains whistling at nearby crossings. The CP 466 popped into view first with a pleasant surprise in the form of two SD40-2's along for the ride. Seconds later a much slower CN 115 came into view. If this had all happened about ten seconds later, the scene would have been in full sun. That being said I still went away feeling quite satisfied. But there was no time to let it sink in as I made a quick decision to go after the CP.
Now for the numbers's
CP# 466 (Red Deer-Sutherland)
CP 8500,5790,5976
CN# 115 (Toronto-Calgary)
CN 2570,2448,GECX9148

Gorgeous photo! Great timing too.
Nice! Somebody had their horseshoe with them
Horseshoes!!?? He was loaded. Its a wonder his pants stayed up.
Ho…ly…cow! The timing was bang on for you here. Way to go!
Nice buffer car.
Wicked!
The words “much slower CN 115″ are so true. The company I buy for has it’s biggest western warehouse in Calgary and the transit time from Toronto has increased dramatically since CN pulled up the old Canadian Northern Saskatoon / Calgary line. This train seems dogged by bad luck and our shipments are almost always delayed. Great photo Matt!
