Caption: At the west end of the old Fort Erie CN yard, which I referred to as 'CN Duff' due to the still-present' namesign at the driveway entrance, an eastbound N&W train has just arrived at the yard. A quartet of GP18s, NW 2705, 2701, 2709 and 2707. Two vans I noted on the tail end, NW 557780 and 557518. It wasn't long before the NW ceased to exist; as in 1980 the NW teamed up with the Southern Railway to form the Norfolk Southern Corporation. For a while they ran as separate roads under one holding company. The merger of the two class one carriers was complete by 1997, in order to compete with the CSX, as the NS and CSX fought for shares of Conrail, the eastern railroad which was soon to be broken up.
