Caption: AMTRAK ADVENTURE. Amtrak's Train No. 97, the 'Maple Leaf' has just arrived from Toronto on October 19, 2007 en route to New York. The train departed Toronto as VIA # 64 and operated by Canadian crews until arrival at the Niagara Falls Station. An operating agreement will now see it run by Amtrak American crews for the remainder of the run to New York's Penn Station with the passengers having to clear customs on the Niagara Falls NY side. This long planned Father-Son hockey trip to see their beloved Leafs play at the the Air Canada Center gave both this Newfoundland photographer and his youngest son Thomas a chance to ride not only some passenger trains but also Toronto's famous streetcars. Having flown from St. John's the previous day and taking VIA No. 35 from Dorval, a day trip to see Niagara Falls was commenced on VIA 64/Amtrak 97 that morning with return on the quite comfortable Amfleet Coaches of Amtrak 98/ VIA 63 that same evening. Wanting to experience a full Original-Six hockey experience with Toronto hosting Chicago, the two travelled by train as would the teams when the NHL was born.
