Caption: As well as manufacturing locomotives for the domestic market, EMD also manufactured many export locomotives for other countries, often of a unique design different from what was being produced for the North American Market. Many of those units were built at the GMD London, Ontario plant over the years, and traveled via CN or CP to port for export overseas (the London plant was making units for both domestic and export markets up until it was closed in 2012). Others were manufactured overseas by EMD or under license to other companies.

Seen here is a brand new EMD GT26CW or "060 DG"-class unit built in 1976 for Société Nationale des Transports Ferroviaires (SNTF) in Algeria, and numbered 060DG5. Notable are the low-profile carbody and cab, high short hood, buffer-and-hook couplers, export trucks with truck-mounted sandboxes, and a rear radiator setup similar in design to the SP "Tunnel Motor" SD45T-2's.

The popular EMD GT26 locomomotive was a 6-axle 2400hp 645-powered export locomotive similar to the SD40 that was built for the export market, including buyers in Australia, Algeria, Yugoslavia, Pakistan, Iran, Brazil, South Africa, Turkey and South Korea.
