It is a shame most small towns have lost their charming railroad stations. Here is a view of the old CN station at Hastings, Ontario; back when I visited it was already left high and dry by the railroad, and was used for storage of various farm implements.
The railroad thru here began as the Grand Junction, opening around 1878 thru here. It was merged with the Midland Rwy in 1882 and leased to the Grand Trunk in 1884. GTR much later then was taken over by CNR. I do not have the date the station was demolished, but I do know the railroad alongside of it was taken up in early 1987.

    CN Hastings May 1977

And if I recall the May 7 shot is a rare daylight movement….

…the ( tri- ? ) weekly way freight – both directions – normally operated late evening, early morning…..

…and the usual power was the Green and Gold 1000 series GMD – 1′s

  2. Ah yes, I remember you posting that gorgeous shot. I never saw anything working any of the small-town trackage around there.
