Back in those heady days of continuous leasing by the major roads; a typical CP train shown here Buffalo-bound has a pair behind the leader. Consist is CP 5606, HLCX 6054 and HATX 216. The train has just exited the Welland canal tunnel, running eastward. I am shooting from the overhead CN Stamford Sub bridge on a beautiful fall day.

  1. Nice view Mr. M. I still think that the huge Welland Canal railway project never fully lived up to expectations. Canadian governments should use it as a cautionary tale. Today’s mega-project could be tomorrow’s White Elephant.

  2. Paced many trains up that side of the hill Arnold, summer and winter with the windows open. Miss the TH&B Geeps on acid trains, but the M-Liners put on the best sound show for us. Great shot, thank you for posting all your fine work for us to enjoy.

  3. Kind thought for a nice sunny day. Appreciate the note, and of course will keep on looking for the interesting and obscure when I can.:o)

  4. To CDNphotog: Maybe, someday, once we pave over all the best agricultural land in the province, housing might spread out down toward Welland and a GO system could take the up the old TH&B and swing into Niffles via this route. Sure, it will be a money-loser, but so will the Grimsby. Hey, SPEND!! It is White Elephant Ontariowe.
