Caption: By 1978, CP Rail was less than enthused with passenger service, and VIA was going to inherit it later that year anyhow. Corporate pride certainly didn't even enter the equation when 1407 was assigned as lead unit on The Canadian.
A shutdown of the Angus paint shop left a few units unpainted, and rather than let them sit, CP put them on the road until space became available at the Ogden paint shop.
1407 was one of them, and she is seen ready to depart Calgary with train 2, the eastbound Canadian, Feb 5, 1978.
