Caption: Canadian Pacific G1-class "Pacific" 2235 passes by West Toronto Station, heading down the Galt Sub to John Street downtown in 1958.
The 2200-series G1's along with G2's, N2's and D10's were regular power for the assist pool, a.k.a. the "Cockney Pool", that helped trains climb the grades west from Toronto to Orr's Lake (on the Galt Sub), north out of Toronto to Bolton (MacTier Sub), or east to Leaside & Agincourt (North Toronto Sub & Belleville Sub, and out of the Don Valley via the Don Branch as well). After their run, the assist engine would be uncoupled from its position in front of the train's regular road engine, and return light power for the next train to assist.
