Caption: It's nowhere near as spectacular during the day, but here it is: the "ho ho train" (as the RTC called it). Having met 112 at Lovekin, the Holiday Train was running a little late as it approached its stop in Bowmanville. To say it was mid-afternoon on a weekday, the crowd was well over 100 people. I've forgotten how many times I've shot this train in Bowmanville and I really am running out of angles.
The first time was back in 2007: it was a miserable night, the ground was covered in ice and freezing rain was falling. By the time I had my photos (they were really bad, I've learned a lot in the last decade), my hat was frozen solid with a layer of ice on it! For the past few years, CP have tightened the schedule and Bowmanville is now a daytime stop. The weather this year was very different compared with 2007. No snow, no rain, and double-digit temperatures. It doesn't make for dramatic photographs, but it sure is nicer weather to stand around waiting in.
