Caption: Sunset on the 'Great Raceway'. As of this photo date the CASO was still under control of Consolidated Rail as their CDN Northern Region 'showpiece'. The line was dissolved into the control of CN and CP a couple of years later. In this view at end of day looking west from atop the old Lake Erie & Northern trestle over the line, it is hard to believe this magnificent mainline is but a memory. Traffic is winding down, yet the ribbons of steel apparently still look well-used. The two left lines are main, the other service tracks (north side) for trains such as TH&B's Nanticoke to come off the west leg of the wye there (shown) unrestricted.
Today all the rail is gone, it is but hiking/walking paths, with controlled vehicle access for those wishing to go fishing in the Waterford Ponds, that body of water beyond the West Leg.

Shocking
This is profound. Thanks for sharing.
A well placed image Arnold. Certainly demonstrates the CASO as a major player, now but a memory.
Heck of a great shot. Wish I had been older to see the CASO back in the eighties.
Glad you guys like this. To think I second-guessed myself about even posting it !
