Caption: Showing up at Hawk Jct at 0730, I came across the morning Ore Empty (#11 ??) from Sault Ste. Marie already stopped at Hawk Jct station. I wanted to be reasonably early because shooting the morning train here, with the horrendous sun angles, is wicked at best. I assume it is the discussion of paperwork and just 'taking a break' that kept the train here another hour before it entered the Michipicoten Sub at 0910 and worked its way over to the Wawa Sinter plant. With the demise of this plant and the subsequent pulling up of the whole subdivision not far away, this was the last trip I would make to the area just to check out the AC/WC. Nice selection of power on this train, WC 6604, 6655, 3012 and 6506.(6655 is an F45) Coming up to 20 years since this scene. You've gotta be part of the older generation to realize how fast time flies...............

Great photo! I made the trip up there in 2000 I think. Was lucky to catch a couple trains. Sad the branch and mostvtraffic in the yard was gone. It’s surprising the mainline is even still here with so much traffic now gone.
Wasn’t the sale of the Algoma Central to the Wisconsin Central brokered by the Bob Rae government?
