I shot 182 a few times in winter 2005 when I was working for City of Guelph.
You really caught this at a great angle. It certainly does look like it is emerging from dense forest. No doubt there is plenty adequate R/W, just hidden in the shadows and bend.

Thanks all. The right of way is very tight back there and between the backyards of homes – since the line north was built in 1904 homes were already in the vicinity for workers of the mills, etc.
There was also a CN line back there (branches from the trail a bit to the north) which CN used to access downtown which was removed around 1974-5. I can’t imagine how both lines were in that small ROW unless CN sold their land off to adjacent homeowners.
I usually see this kind of right of way for an industrial spur, but this is mainline track, 10+ train movements a week.
I’ve seen photos Steve, between where the CN line branches off and around where your shot was taken, there were 3! tracks.
I don’t think the third came this far down, but definitely around the crossing just north of here.
One of Ian Wilson’s great books goes into detail in downtown Guelph and at one time the CN spur went much further than you think….
I’d advise looking to see which book it was in, because I can’t for the life remember which one.
