Photographed during our latest trip out West on VIA's Canadian: The sole surviving Canadian Pacific Alco-designed cab-unit, FPA-2 #4090, sits on display at the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel in Cranbrook, BC. It's not hard to imagine this unit in one of it's original assignments of heading the Toronto section of The Canadian back when it was a CP train. This photo is from the latest trip my wife & I took in Prestige Class on the 'Canadian' from Toronto to Jasper, AB to visit Jasper & Banff National Parks, the Banff Springs Hotel and various preserved railway equipment in Alberta & British Columbia before continuing on the train in Sleeper Plus Class to Vancouver. For more pics & videos from this trip visit my webpage at http://northamericabyrail.info/a-trip-on-via-rails-canadian-2017-toronto-on-jasper-ab-banff-ab-vancouver-bc/
Also, the trip overviews on my site now include links to not only rail services like VIA but connecting transportation, rental cars, hotels & attractions to help those thinking of planning a similar trip. Cheers, Pete

  3. Maybe an excuse to ride VIA’s Canadian sometime with a stopover in Jasper, rent a car & drive to Cranbrook?

    Best Regards, Pete

  4. Cap the stack and put a shed roof over it!!!
Great to see some ALCO cabs getting respect. Thanks for informing us!.

  5. Beautiful. I’m thinking this is in the same location it was before restoration, right next to the old Elko station?

  6. Thanks, Arnold. That’s absolutely correct, right by the old Elko station which is still there, out of view to the left save for a tiny sliver of the roof showing at the left of the pic. Cheers, Pete
