Ever since the steam era, CN's Spadina Roundhouse has been their main maintenance base for passenger power running out of nearby Union Station in downtown Toronto. This continued into the VIA era until the mid-80's when locomotive and passenger car servicing and repair facilities were moved to the new VIA "Toronto Maintenance Centre" in nearby Mimico (to make way for the Skydome construction).

Seen here on July 22nd 1980, VIA FPA4 6789 and other VIA power sits on the ready lines at Spadina Roundhouse with CN RS18's 3118, 3114 and 3111, also used in passenger service out of Toronto.

  1. A very eye catching photo Mr. Thomson! The VIA ‘Blue & Yellow’ was a great paint scheme while it lasted. Would be great to see it applied to one of the F40 or PA units as a ‘Heritage’ scheme.
