Strange sightings on GEXR - For a day or two one of these SD70ACe's was tested on GEXR, at the time 432 would meet 85 in Kitchener (which means terrible lighting) so an overcast day is the one to want. These were indeed somewhat strange days on GEXR since just about anything EMD London made would make an appearance on test runs.

Kevin was there for this too :)

  1. Trailing unit is GEXR 4019.

  2. Jeez someone needs to try a time machine with this! Great shot Steve!

  3. A good thought, you’ll need a train on the Siding… and it may still be out of service here :)

And then you have to find a photo 20 years older.. it’s not 20 years old yet :)

  4. Indeed I was :)

Here’s a link to my photo on here from that run:

  5. I love that shot Kevin!! I must have had to go back to work though, Couldn’t wait for the lift…

I think I shot this thing twice – I forget how many days it actually ran.. I don’t seem to think it was more than a week.

  6. Thanks Steve

  7. My guess and it’s probably accurate is that you can’t simulate certain things in the “backyard” over there in London, so why not test them out in actual service.

More than likely they have someone from GMD riding along with them.

    But it’s my guess.

  8. Driver, yes, there was someone from EMD on board on most if not all trips.

There were LOTS of engines tested in 2004 when the ACE’s were brand new, and then only a few tests after that to Toronto.

There were also a number of tests done between London and Stratford, but I missed all of those.
