My guess and it’s probably accurate is that you can’t simulate certain things in the “backyard” over there in London, so why not test them out in actual service.
More than likely they have someone from GMD riding along with them.
But it’s my guess.
Driver, yes, there was someone from EMD on board on most if not all trips.
There were LOTS of engines tested in 2004 when the ACE’s were brand new, and then only a few tests after that to Toronto.
There were also a number of tests done between London and Stratford, but I missed all of those.
