Caption: STEAM SURVIVOR. Former CNR 593, a Pacific Class 4-6-2, is the only surviving steam locomotive from the Newfoundland Railway and has found a safe home on static display at the Railway Society of Newfoundland's Historic Train Site in Corner Brook. Originally delivered as # 193 for the NR in 1921 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the sum of $36,870.00 as a passenger express engine, it remained as such until the arrival of the larger and more powerful Mikados started to arrive in the 1930's. After years of branchline duty pulling mixed trains, it ended it's career as a yard switcher in Port aux Basques with some 1.5 million miles of service behind her in 1957. Accompanying this beautifully restored engine and her tender on the narrow gauge mainline at the Humbermouth Station are Box Baggage 1598 (Eastern Car, 1954), Baggage-Express 1600 (CC&F, 1943), Coach 758 (CC&F, 1949), Diner 10 (CC&F 1943), and Sleeper 'Twillingate' (NSC, 1938).
