Caption: Another one of the stored Northerns at Canadian National's Mimico roundhouse at the end of the steam era is CN 6178. Built by MLW in May 1940 as part of U2e class 6165-6179, she's shown in 1959 stored dead with stack capped, no coal in her tender, but drive rods still on. Unfortunately like most of the stored steam engines there would be no reprieve for 6178, and she would be scrapped in April 1960.

Again, I find it difficult to imagine taking a torch to a machine as lovely and vocal as one of these. CNR should resurrect one of the survivors and keep it serviceable for critical representation of Canadian history.
