Caption: ROUNDING BLAGGARD'S CURVE. During the photographer's and his girlfriend's first Newfoundland train trip on April 20, 1987, each mile brought a pleasant surprise and on the approach to Quarry, it was no different. The ascent into the Topsails was well underway and after travelling several miles of relatively straight track Mixed Extra 945 West suddenly took a sharp 90 degree - even by Newfoundland standards - turn to the left. It then ran straight for a couple of car lengths before suddenly veering another 90 degrees to the right. In the past, when 80 to 100 cars where in the consist, photographers such as Mike Shufelt and Rich Taylor among others, captured entire trains entering and exiting Newfoundland's most famous 'S' curve.
