For while in the mid-1990s, CN originated some trains destined for interchange with U.S. railroads at Joffre Yard outside of Quebec City. This included 328 and 335 destined for Conrail at Selkirk and Frontier Yards as well as Chicago train 391. So the three M420W units that we have on today's 391 are a pleasant surprise--at this stage in their careers, they would normally not be found on a train bound for the U.S.! (Most likely these units were was changed out at Toronto.)
