With word from upstate New York railfans that AMTK 69 (the northbound Adirondack) left Albany with a GP38H-3 as sole power yesterday, I was one of many railfans to shoot it on AMTK 68 today. Here the ex-GP40TC (built by GMD in London, Ontario for GO Transit just before its startup) is pushing the deadheading train towards Central Station 80 minutes before departure. This may be the first time one of these units has been the sole power on a medium-distance train such as the Adirondack. It certainly made a nice change from the usual Genesis Series power.

  1. The Adirondack’s power is usually on The Maple Leaf upon return to Albany. I really hope this is on the Maple Leaf …

  2. WOW! Fifty one years old and still going strong! Class unit built as GO Transit (GOT) GP40TC No. 600 by GMD, 11/1966. Renumbered by GO to 9800 then 500, sold to Amtrak in 1988 becoming AMTK 192.

  3. If it did go on the Maple Leaf I would chase that thing if I had too. Get it crossing over the Border, Then rush to another good spot along its route.
