The Terrace Bay pulp & paper mill, once operated by Buchanan of Thunder Bay, was shut down in 2012. It was then taken over by the Aditya Birla Group (India) and the mill is now known as AV Terrace Bay. Cando has the contract at the plant, and upon visiting this past fall I encountered most friendly employees operating CCGX 1006 outside the mill. On the left is long-time CP hogger, Lawrence Speziale, and alongside him is CNDR Aaron Stefurak. Both have connections with CP as railroaders out of Schreiber, Lawrence with 37+ years. It should be noted here that Aaron's father, a long time steam buff; was instrumental in organizing the successful dive for steam engine CP 649 that was found in the murky waters of Lake Superior, where it came to rest after a wreck many years ago. This story and superb underwater photos of the loco made quite a splash recently.
