Just west of the hamlet of Wahnapitae the CPR crossed under the Trans-Canada Highway on its way between North Bay and Sudbury through a landscape still in recovery after years of exposure to mineral smelting pollution . It was usually a great place to shoot well lit shots of westbounds. Here's train #471, one of two intermodals that originated in Montreal heading for western Canada (#481 was the other). The second unit is a former Quebec Northshore & Labrador SD40-2, one of the 200+ locomotives that CPR regularly had on lease during this time period.

  1. Nice, Glenn! It is a great location for shooting, but as you probably know, wander back in and there just could be the odd friendly black bear. :o )
What traffic is on that line now?
