This is just a small town scene from long ago; the CP station in Kelowna, local switcher CP 8538 and a most interesting old caboose. Back during this area CP and CN shared assets on this line between here and Vernon. Kelowna was the southern terminus of this line which connected with the CP transcon at Sicamous. Fast forward a number of years and it becomes the Kelowna Pacific operating over the Okanagan Valley RR. Fast forward to present, and there is nothing at Kelowna. Track lifted after OKAN went bankrupt. So rail 'action' at Kelowna is no longer. I would appreciate someone in the know with updates; even my placing of the station in town is difficult recollection.

  1. Nice to see a view of the time when boxcar traffic still existed. I will leave to another time to debate whether trucks “stole” this type of traffic or whether the railways gave it up. I think this was shot in Vernon since that is what the station sign reads.

  2. What an incerdible oversight. Thank you Mr. CTP. The 40 year old slide was not marked and I ‘thought’ it was Kelowna. I do not even have any notes here saying I went to Vernon !!! Will get that corrected!!
