Caption: Action Central!!! Yep. Thats what it was like around Bayview during the dinner hour some years ago. Behind me the CN local was working the Hamilton Stuart St yard, the Budds for Niagara had just passed, as had the GO running east with 902/706. And I happened to be in the right spot because I heard the "Goderich" coming down from Waterdown so zipped over to the High Level bridge from Bayview to grab a shot of it. To my surprise, out comes the TH&B Starlite, with CP 5699 and 5790. As CP 8756 passes heading into Aberdeen, the Starlite, which runs to Toronto via the CN, has to wait because here comes the Dofasco Ore train! A couple of passengers up and down the Dundas Hill as well as a freight further complicated this rather productive hour. Sure do not experience days like this any more. Ore train power is: CN 9550, 9582, 9453, 4006 and 5045.

All I can say, it is pretty sad now. It should always be busy like this. Got to love those early evenings in the summer
CN train 730/731 ore trains were my favorites to operate. 15,000hp, no dynamic brakes and over 12,000 tons. Ahh the good old days! Great pic.
Anything with the Ore train is a “10″!! There are moments in dispatching when your “hands are tied”. So many things to do, such surprisingly little track to so them in.
LOL..and we often curse the dispatcher when its our train that is stopped
Nothing more fun than taking the ore down the hill to Burlington with an approach signal!! Hog with a penny holding the independent bailed while dragging down the hill to see the home signal. Then isolating the lead unit for a near silent ride back to Jane St.
Great shot. I wish Bayview/Hamilton Jct. was still this busy.

It was originally 868/869, but was 730/731 by the time I hired on in 1981. Perhaps when they dumped the letter symbols?
Ahh I remember it well. I was more afraid of coming down to Hamilton yard back then. The Grimbsy Sub actually started right in front of the yard office and they had dwarf signals governing movements to enter the Grimbsy off the Oakville Sub. You sure better have control of your train if the signal was stop!
