In 2002 a good friend and I decided to take a two week trip exploring the railroads and lighthouses of Eastern Canada and the United States. While Sackville NB is certainly not a hot bed of train traffic it was a place we had to see considering it's one time importance to the rail traffic heading to P.E.I. Sadly the 1980s claimed the rails across P.E.I. and the line from the mainline at Sackville to the dock at cape Tormentine was lifted then as well. Leaving the Cape a virtual ghost town after the new bridge was built.
Back in 2002 only a couple of rusty tracks remained in the one time bustling yard at Sackville. We waited that day for VIA train #15 "The Ocean" to arrive at Sackville admiring its stainless steel consist as it departed passing the abandoned yard.
